Before you apply for service, we need to know if you are requesting service at a new location or an existing location. The procedures are below for each situation.
For service at a new location, your request will require construction of lines and will follow the work order process outlined below:
- Complete the membership application. All security deposits and fees along with any information listed above may also be needed before the work order can proceed.
- A meter base must be installed or the mobile home must be in place.
- A staking technician will visit your site and draw up a work order for the installation of electrical service. This work order specifies the location of the poles and lines based on the right-of-way, property lines and future plans of the member. To contact a staking technician directly, call Keith Long at (229) 938-9963.
- A permit from the local county electrical inspector must be issued before the work order can proceed. Each county has different rules and ordinances and the member is urged to contact the inspector as soon in the process as possible.
- The member needs to locate and mark or expose personally owned underground water, sewage or gas lines. Middle Georgia EMC will mark public utility lines such as telephone, electric, and cable lines. Middle Georgia EMC is not responsible for damage to unmarked lines.
- All jobs are scheduled on a first come-first serve basis according to location to maximize the efficiency of our work crews and to get your power connected just as quickly as possible. The foreman will only release the job to be built after the staking technician has completed the work order and the inspector has issued a permit.
- Once the Manager of Operations and Construction releases the job to be constructed, construction should be completed within 3 to 10 days.
