Apply for Service

Before you apply for service, we need to know if you are requesting service at a new location or an existing location. The procedures are below for each situation.

New Location

For service at a new location, your request will require construction of lines and will follow the work order process outlined below:

  1. Complete the membership application. All security deposits and fees along with any information listed above may also be needed before the work order can proceed.

  2. A meter base must be installed or the mobile home must be in place.

  3. A staking technician will visit your site and draw up a work order for the installation of electrical service. This work order specifies the location of the poles and lines based on the right-of-way, property lines and future plans of the member. To contact a staking technician directly, call Keith Long at (229) 938-9963.

  4. A permit from the local county electrical inspector must be issued before the work order can proceed. Each county has different rules and ordinances and the member is urged to contact the inspector as soon in the process as possible.

  5. The member needs to locate and mark or expose personally owned underground water, sewage or gas lines. Middle Georgia EMC will mark public utility lines such as telephone, electric, and cable lines. Middle Georgia EMC is not responsible for damage to unmarked lines.

  6. All jobs are scheduled on a first come-first serve basis according to location to maximize the efficiency of our work crews and to get your power connected just as quickly as possible. The foreman will only release the job to be built after the staking technician has completed the work order and the inspector has issued a permit.

  7. Once the Manager of Operations and Construction releases the job to be constructed, construction should be completed within 3 to 10 days.

To contact your Electric Inspector, call according to the county of residence:

Dooly County (Glenn Layson) (229) 268-6696
Pulaski County (Jersey Bray) (478) 892-3240
Houston County (Walt Exley and Ed Gallagher) (478) 542-2018

If you need assistance, our friendly customer service representatives are ready to help you get your electricity turned on. Call us at (229) 268-2671 or toll-free at (800) 342-0144 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. for assistance.

Existing Location

When you apply for service, we will need to find out whether power has been supplied to your location before. If so, then you are applying for service at an existing location.

For service at an existing location, here's what you need to get started:

  1. The meter number at the location where you need power turned on.

  2. Your account number if you have service with us now or a completed membership application.

  3. Required Security Deposits and Fees. We need permission to check your credit history. Security deposits vary depending on your credit history. Rent receipt and copy of current picture identification is needed.

  4. The physical address (911 address) of the property.

  5. Note: An electrical permit from the appropriate inspection department, city or county, may be required if you are connecting a mobile home to an existing meter. Contact your local building inspector for more information.

  6. Complete service entrance wired according to applicable electrical codes.
